Bone-chilling winter winds swept Artemisia's forelock to the left. Her slender, yet strong, dependable legs took her forward. Too bad she couldn't see where forward was. Even though it's in the earliest stages of winter, there was an unexpected snowstorm going on. Artemisia was just trying to find at least a little bit of shelter, but it seemed like the wind was blowing in every direction. She found the tiniest cave, and wiggled under it. The cave wasn't very warm, but at lest there wasn't snow on the frozen ground. Artemisia heaved down, resting her journey-stricken limbs, and faced ayay from the cave's mouth so as to not freeze her tender face too much.

Jasper was grazing in a patch of grass that the receding snow had revealed. The breeze carried with it the sent of a mare. Jasper stopped and lifted his head. His nostrils flared and he fallowed he sent. A large snow-covered tree blocked his path but he jumped it with ease and was on his way again. He picked up a trot and emerged in a small clearing, he lifted his muzzle into the air and her sent flowed to him. His eyes found a small cave and saw a horse tail. He slowly walked toward the cave wondering if the mare was alright. "Hello? Miss?" his ears flicked back and forth trying to make sure he could hear her steady breathing. He waited to see if she would answer.

Artemisia flickered her long, palomino eyelashes, started awake by a horse. "Oh! Hello." Artemisia sighed. She yawned and stretched her numb limbs. Artemisia's flank quivered from a pesky fly. "So, what must your name be?" There was an echo, and Artemisia spooked and swiveled her ears back, but then she readjusted herself, and looked over her shoulder to discover it was only a rock that had dislodged itself from the depths of the cave's grand walls. Artemisia turned her ears back facing the stallion in front of her so she could wait for his response.

Jasper sighed in relief, it wouldn't have been the first time he had found a horse dead, but he was glad she was alive. "Hello, my name is Jasper, and what may I call you?" He flicked his tail as a swallow tried to perch on his back. It had seemed like winter had started only yesterday and now it was starting to end, in a few days the thick snow would melt and spring flowers would come up and the grass would be sweet and plentiful. He had even spotted a bear emerging from its long winter sleep, with two cubs at her side.

Artemisia bowed her head and swiftly sniffed the ground. Yep. Spring, Summer, Fall. They cone ad go so fast. "I go by the name Artemisia." She once more, looked around the cave. It was such an astounding place. How could a cave like this, so perfect, be made by nature itself? "So, where do you come from?" Artemisia wondered aloud to Jasper. Of course, she is hoping his response is somewhat of a stable, safe herd, where she could finally settle, and maybe even move on from her terrible past. Although, even if he doesn't have a herd, she deliberated, she very much would want to join Jasper. She knows very well that even one companion is much safer than being alone.

"Well Artemisia, I am currently wandering but also looking for good land to call home." The buckskin stallion swiveled his harks as he could seemingly hear the forest come alive more and more. His dark gold pelt shone in the sunlight as he stood just outside of the cavern. His nostrils flared as he scented the air, the old sent of a grizzly long gone. His gaze soon returned to Artimisia. "Would you like to join me? I know mares usually like stallions with herdlands but two sets of eyes are better than one, and right now with the hungry bears out and the other predators looking for a meal it would be better not to be alone. So what do ya say?"

Artemisia also noticed the scent. Her nostrils quivered. She knew it was gone, but the fight-or-flight instinct is very strong in this traumatized young mare. Her eyes widened with glee at his response. "Oh of COURSE I will join you!" Artemisia's heart was fluttering to a abnormally fast beat. Either from the adrenaline, or her current state of security, or both, she didn't know. All she knew right now was happiness. Happiness that felt like it could last a lifetime. "Thank you so much!" She just noticed how strikingly golden Jasper looked. Striking enough to make Artemisia's breath catch and her heart to skip a beat. She didn't know what just happened, but she liked it. She looked up at Jasper through her long, golden eyelashes.

Jasper smiled at Artemisia, glad to finally have company in the lonely world that he lived in. He drifted out into one of the near by meadows to graze and think about where they should head for. He was lost in thought when it suddenly struck him, Artemisia and him should go to the lands bordering the lands his sister lives in!
With his long swift strides, he trotted back to where she was and told her his idea. "Near the Arrowheads, there is free land, why don't we head over there?"
OOC: Sorry, my muse is running low! I don't think hidden is about to get on any time soon so for now we will have to ether continue posting here or go over to the light lands and post there until someone helps create lands.

Artemisia enjoyed being in Jasper's company. Maybe too much for the length of time they had known each other. Jasper's question made her ecstatic. She was so happy to finally have some protection, care, and stability since being brought into this harsh, reality. "Whatever you think is best, boss!" She grinned sweetly at her response. This new life made her so gleeful. No wonder band mares are so peaceful, but Artemisia Was not ready to give up her signature spunk. Sure, she'll settle with Jasper and help him start a band, but she was too young and inexperienced to give up her curiosity. "Shall we go now?" Artemisia questioned Jasper.
OOC: Whatever you wanna do(: it doesn't matter to me.

"Not yet" Chocolate orbs rose to peer at the sky "storm season is coming, best not to travel right now. By the time we would get to the pass, it would be filled with snow and we would not be able to continue." Jasper headed into the cave and at the very back he laid down to rest. The cave was warm at the end, the earth emitting a nice heat, perfect for lulling Jasper to sleep. The golden stallion's eye lids shut and his breathing slowed. Sleep over came him, along with the sweet dreams of a herd and lands.
OOC:Guess we will stay here for a while

She understood. She knew very well how bad getting caught up in the snow can be. She stood lazily and watched as Jasper went to the cave to sleep. This got her thinking about her site and dam. Had hey had a real connection, or did they find each other, bare each other, ad die for their offspring together? Artemisia was to young, so young, and too pure to understand the complexity of the world she now exists in. She shook these pandemoniac thoughts out of her delicate head. She decided to explore the cave that saved her life.
It was a mass, wondrous place. It had room-like ares, each with an opening as small as the front one. She strode back to the room right by the main one, where Jasper sleeps, and quiety laid herself down. She adjusted so that her head was by the opening, guarding her only hope. She soon found herself fading in and out of consciousness, though.

Jasper was up and awake early in the morning, so early that the sun had not yet risen. Careful not to wake Artemisia, he went outside into the cold morning air. Walking up the hill that he had yet to explore, his mind kept trying to think of different ways to get to the light lands without going through the pass. When he got to the top his orbs surveyed the lands around him, the stark beauty struck him and the bare trees allowed him to fallow a path that slid between the mountains. That was it! The hidden path that he had been looking for! Other horses had told him that it was the only way to safely get through the mountains all year long, but because of the foliage he had not found it. He excitedly waited for Artemisia to wake so he could tell her.
OOC: Breyer is making lands for us, they should be up soon!

Artemisia slowly awoke. She noticed Jasper had left, so she got up, stretched, and went searching outside. She had come across his scent trail, so she followed it. As she walked up the mountain Jasper had just some minutes ago, she stopped to take in the unimaginable beauty of the land. The green grass, the fluffy trees, the fall flowers. They all made up a beautiful picture. Artemisia didn't want to lose the scent trail, so she kept going up to the top. First she saw Jasper, she would always see Jasper before anything else, then she saw it. The beautiful path, leading the way to hopeful lands. She trotted up to Jasper's side in gleeful, long prances. She stopped right next to him, and took in the beauty, the reality, of the situation.

Artemisia listened to the great news her leader now told her. She stared at him, wide-eyed with happiness, as he took off down the path. She was speechless, an stood stock-still, trying to comprehend. She finally understood. They had land. That finally had land. They can be a real herd now. Artemisia was in a herd. She trough up her head, snorted loudly, and took off right behind her stallion.
